The Answers

True or false: Whitening toothpastes contain teeth bleaching agents

False! This is a common misnomer. Whitening toothpaste does not contain bleaching agents, but they do contain usually are more abrasive particles that may help get the stain off your teeth a little bit better and quicker. However, you have to be really careful because they are very abrasive and, over time, can actually wear away your enamel or your gum tissue. So, we always tell people to use whitening toothpaste with caution.

True or false: You should take your child to the dentist for the first time around age five

False! We recommend bringing your child to the dentist around their first birthday. This is a good time for a wellness check. We can head off any problems before they start and start getting your child used to coming into the dental office at a young age.

True or false: You should brush for two minutes at least twice a day and floss daily

True! We know from studies that if you brush for two minutes and cover all the surfaces of your teeth and do that twice a day and you floss daily, that will go a long way to helping you maintain a healthy smile and healthy teeth and gums in general.

True or false: Sugar-free gum is good for your teeth

True! Gum is really good at not only physically removing plaque and debris from your teeth but also stimulating saliva, which is very important in neutralizing acids and maintaining the correct pH in your mouth. However, the key is to use sugar-free gum!

True or false: Fluoride can help repair tooth enamel and prevent cavities

True! Studies tell us that fluoride, when used in a safe manner and proper dosage, is actually very effective at helping to repair the early stages of tooth decay and is also very good at strengthening your teeth in general and helping to prevent cavities.
