Most everyone has wisdom teeth, but not everyone needs to have them removed. However, it is highly likely that your wisdom teeth will grow in a way that will cause you dental issues in the future. At Coshocton Dentistry, wisdom teeth removal is a very common procedure that we have years and years of experience doing.
Your wisdom teeth, or third molars, are located in the very back of your mouth and usually don't surface from your gums until your late teenage years. This is the best time to have your wisdom teeth removed because they have not fully grown in and they have not caused you any problems yet.
The best time to have your wisdom teeth removed is when you are younger. Generally, when you are 18 years old is the best time to have the surgery. There are multiple reasons that you should have your wisdom teeth removed so early other than the issue they can cause. One reason is that the surgery is much easy for your dentist to complete. Another reason is because you recover from the procedure much faster when you are younger.
Most wisdom teeth come in crooked, so they can disrupt the rest of your teeth after they have fully emerged. Sometimes, wisdom teeth can even grow in horizontally, causing all of your other teeth to shift. Other times, wisdom teeth will never fully emerge or are impacted, and this can lead to infection, cysts, or damage the roots of other teeth.
If you are a young adult or your child is in their late teenage years, it's time to start thinking about having those wisdom teeth removed. Likewise, if you are an adult who still has their wisdom teeth, chances are you do need them removed.
