Why Do We Need All of Our Teeth?

missing teeth and how to treat them | Coshocton Dentistry

Sometimes our patients will ask us why we really need all of our teeth. Many people might not want to pay for tooth replacement options and think they can just deal with have a missing tooth or two. However, there are many reasons why we need all of our teeth!

The Importance of Having All Your Teeth

Having a full set of teeth as an adult is extremely important in more ways than one. The most essential function of your teeth is to help you chew. But when you have lost a tooth or multiple teeth, for whatever reason, you begin to chew your food differently. After a while, you will not be able to chew your food all the way, and you will start digesting your food wrong as well.

Missing teeth can also affect your speech. The way you talk is strongly reliant on your teeth, and if you are missing one or two, you might have trouble speaking. After you lose a tooth, your bite changes and your remaining teeth begin to move around in your mouth which can cause TMJ.

Treatments for Tooth Loss

There are a few different ways to replace a tooth, and they all differ in price and depend on the anatomy of the patient as well as their preference.

Our goal is to educate our patients on first of all the importance of having all of their teeth and then explaining their options to them. We walk through all of the pros and cons of each treatment so we can arrive at a treatment option that they are comfortable and happy with.

Everyone is different and one option may not be right for you, but it could be the best choice for someone else. The best thing to do would be to consult with us about your options. Contact us at Coshocton Dentistry today or request an appointment online!
